Conferences

Category: GENERAL

Date: November 3, 2022 - November 4, 2022

Contact: Jen Mount - jmount@libertychristian.net

The first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year is quickly coming to an end. We have been rejoicing in the goodness of God with a return to “normal” school activities. Traditionally, this first quarter ends with parent – teacher conferences as we partner together for the success of each student.

At the elementary level (grades K4-6th ) you will be scheduling a time to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher. You will receive a link to “Sign-Up Genius” for each of your children. Please choose a time for your conference.

At the secondary level (grades 7th-12th) your conferences will be “STUDENT LED”. For those of you who have been at Liberty for a few years, we started this process in 2019. We have found it to be a valuable experience for our students. Parent exit surveys have indicated over 90% of our parents also find it to be a valuable format. This model supports our LCS mission and framework in preparing students for real-world interactions in Business-Service and Leadership. There are many reasons “why” this model is effective, including
• Increased student ownership of learning
• Increased understanding of their strengths and weaknesses as a student
• Personal reflection and goal-setting skills addressed
• Practice in collecting data and preparing portfolios
• Practice in communication and critical thinking skills
• Growth in multiple state learning standards

Parents of secondary students will also receive a link to SIGN UP GENIUS. You will sign up for a specific hour for each of your students, as they will be meeting with all of their teachers. Sign up for ONE student per hour only; if you have more than one student, parents may “divide and conquer” the conference rotations within an hour, but each student needs one dedicated hour. Trying to squeeze multiple students in the same hour ends up impacting other families and teachers.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for 7th – 12th grade Parents and Students:

The SET-UP:
• When you arrive at LCS for your slotted time, please pick up your report card from the office.
• Enter the gym and go to the first available teacher – begin there.
• Please take no more than 5-7 minutes with each teacher.
• The bleachers will be available should you have to wait for a teacher.
• Teachers will have cards on their table to indicate how many students in a family with whom they will be conferencing. This will let others know that teacher might be longer than 5-7 minutes.

• You will notice different time slots this year. LCS volleyball team will have a home play-off game THURSDAY 11/3/22 . We will NOT be having conferences during this time in order to support our LADY PATRIOTS!

• PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
o We have nearly 200 secondary students this year. Some of our teachers have 80-90 students. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF THE TIME!
o Conference times can NOT be made up. This is a grade for students, so those who are sick will have a make-up assignment given by their teachers.
o If you need to meet with a teacher for an extended conference, please set up a different time outside of the scheduled conference times.
o Please DO let your STUDENT lead the conference and do most of the talking!
