Thankful!

April 25, 2017
By Jim Cochran

The weekend of April 21-22 was a very busy one for LCS! For months, many volunteers, parents, and staff have been preparing for the Patriot Car Show and Auction. Committee meetings have been held since October; marketing plans, procurement of donations, logistical plans, decorations, websites, databases- all sorts of behind-the-scenes activity and work was accomplished to present a great day of events for our community and to raise funds for our school.

THANKFUL FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF!!!!

Friday evening, vintage trailers began arriving and setting up camp under the trees on the north campus. As the sun began to drop to the western horizon, families gathered on the lawn to the smell of popcorn and a campfire. As soon as it was dark enough, everyone enjoyed a movie as the stars appeared in the night sky. There was a great time of fellowship and the kids split their time between playing games on the grass and watching the movie.

THANKFUL FOR OUR COMMUNITY OF SCHOOL FAMILIES!!!!

As the sky began to change color early Saturday morning, there was already stirring at the campus. Tables and chairs, canopis, goodie bags, sound systems- all were being set up in preparation for the car show. As the morning progressed, the lawn and parking lot disappeared as nearly 200 classic cars, hot rods, vintage motorcycles, and other unique vehicles arrived. The front lawn was filled with the aroma of coffee, breakfast burrittos, kettle corn , and more from the food vendors. Many canopies appeared from vendors offering up a display of creativity and products. A bounce house, face painting booth, and the fire department provided a great kids space.

THANK YOU TO THE TRI-CITIES CLASSIC CAR CLUB COMMUNITY AND BUSINESSES, AND OTHER EASTERN WASHINGTON CLUBS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!

The car show started with our LCS student Boy Scouts presenting the colors and Jason Strickland, Worship Pastor from Columbia Community Church, sang the National Anthem. Throughout the day, veterans and active duty military signed a car show t-shirt and tickets were sold to raffle it off at the end of the day. $106 was raised that will be donated to VFW Post 7952 Richland.

THANK YOU VETERANS FOR YOUR SERVICE AND TO OUR SCOUTS FOR YOUR PATRIOTISM!!!!

Throughout the day, we were blessed with live entertainment. The LCS Patriot Players started us off with catchy offerings on their marimbas. The Tri-Cities Steel Drum Band, OK2Botay, got the crowd participating in the limbo while they performed high energy songs. And American Honey Duo came dwon from Yakima to perform a variety of country and classic rock hits.

THANKFUL FOR THE LCS PATRIOT PLAYERS, OK2BOTAY AND AMERICAN HONEY DUO!!!!

The car show finshed with the awards- Best of Show going to Shane DeRuwe for his Camaro! This year, we had a variety of businesses offer sponsor picks and trophies for the show, allowing us to give out ten awards.

THANK YOU TO OUR BUSINESS SPONSORS!!!!

We had increased participation and a significant increase in foot traffic throughout the day.

THANKFUL FOR THE TRI-CITIES COMMUNITY!!!!

The 4th Annual Patriot Car Show and Shine was a great success. The rain held off and we were blessed with a wonderful time to come together as a community and support an awesome school!
