Extended Care
Extended Care

Extended Care for 2011-2012 school year

Welcome! I am so excited for this school year! God has given me some wonderful ideas and I cannot wait to implement them! J

First of all, Shannon Bogen will be working in extended care in the mornings. She knows and loves the students and will be a great asset to their morning routine! All students will be in the existing extended care room to start out the day. Please advise your students that outside toys and activities will not be permitted in extended care. Therefore, the playground balls that were in the classroom have been removed. They should come to extended care prepared to participate in quiet activity. This does not mean “silent”, it simply means that they will start out their day in a structured, calm environment. Drop off and pick up for extended care is located behind the school at the end of the long parking lot on the elementary side. There is a sign on the door to designate extended care. The doorbell on the handle will inform the attendant that you are there.

In the afternoon, students in grades 4-8, will report to the library with Mrs. Rice. (With an exception of Friday, in which all students will be together in room 113.) Attendance will be taken at 3:00, and then they will go out for a quick recess. At 3:30, they will go back to the library for snack and homework. During that hour it will be a “study hall setting”. Students will need to be prepared with a silent activity. This will help ensure a positive work environment for each child. Please encourage your student to bring a book or project to work on when their homework is finished. At 4:30, they will bring their belongings to the extended care room. At this time, the groups will have second snack and (weather permitting) go outside for recessPICK UP FOR GRADES 4-8 WILL STILL BE THROUGH THE EXTENDED CARE DOORS IN THE BACK OF THE SCHOOL. ONCE YOU RING THE DOORBELL, THE LIBRARY WILL BE PAGED AND YOUR STUDENT WILL BE SENT DOWN TO YOU. PLEASE DO NOT GO DIRECTLY TO THE LIBRARY. WE ARE TRYING TO LIMIT THE INTERRUPTIONS TO HOMEWORK TIME.

Students in grades K-3, will report to the extended care room (113). Mrs. Strickland will take attendance and the students will have outside recess until 3:30. At that time, they will be led back into room 113 for a snack. 3:30-4:30 will be homework time. Students that need to read to an adult will be called on at that time. Kindergarten students will have free play and craft time. Please note that it is your child’s responsibility to let the attendant know if they have homework. Weather permitting; the attendant will then take them back outside.

Please also note:
The after- hours contact number for extended care is 713-5469.

Extended care is open on school days only. If the school is closed, then extended care is closed.

Extended care opens at 6:30 a.m. on school days.   Any student dropped off before 6:30 a.m. will result in $1/minute charge.

After school, students are checked in to extended care at 3:00 p.m. (or 3:15 for secondary). There is a mandatory 15 minute charge for any student entering extended care after school.

For staffing purposes, parents must let extended care know by 2:00 p.m. if their student will need to be in extended care that day. We will not accept drop in students after 2 p.m.

The Extended Care Program ends at 6:00 p.m. A late charge of $1/minute will be levied for any student not picked up by 6:00 p.m.

Thank you again for your continued support of this amazing program. I truly feel that God has wonderful things planned for our school this year. Please contact me at jzeigler@libertychristian.net for any of your extended care needs and concerns. I look forward to seeing you soon! J
